Mission Statement
- Provide a forum for communication and cooperation among health sciences librarians charged with responsibility for selection, retention, and deselection of library materials;
- Promote the education of health sciences librarians in general, and those responsible for collection development in particular, in matters relating to the philosophy, design, conduct and evaluation of collection development and evaluation of collection development programs;
- Provide a resource group among the membership of MLA which will be available to coordinate, propose, support or study along or in conjunction with other related bodies, issues and practices relevant to the development of library collections in health sciences institutions.

- Fusing Cultures and Diversity Awareness in Library Collections

This session will consist of a guest speaker and panelists who will address collection development and outreach techniques for culturally diverse populations of students, faculty, and researchers. This session was co-sponsored with CDS by the Federal Libraries Section, African American Medical Librarians Alliance SIG, Complementary and Alternative Medicine SIG, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Health Science Librarians SIG.
- Technology Selection: Evolving with the Times

This session is being co-sponsored with the Educational Media and Technologies Section and will consist of a panel discussion on what factors negate purchasing various technologies and resources for our ever-changing library collections.

- Vendor Relations: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

At this session, panelists will discuss three primary topics: (1) What to do when vendor relations break down? (2) What to do when librarians make unreasonable requests? (3) What to do to make transitions of vendor representatives as smooth as possible? In addition to these primary topics, do you have any questions you would to see addressed?
