Hi all,
If you were in Phoenix at the 2006 MLA conference (some of you may not even
be back at work), you'll know that all of us raced around, trying to
balance our loyalties to sections and colleagues, against desires to attend
various sessions and get in some exhibit hall time....So many conflicting
and competing events from which to choose! 2006 meeting organization and
planning aims were achieved if we were tantalized by so many program
events--2006 National Program Committee cochair was CDS member Jim Shedlock.
Happy 20th anniversary, CDS! During our Collection Development Section
business meeting, although officers introduced themselves, sorry to say, we
didn't remember to invite attendees to go around to introduce themselves.
If any of our new CDS members / first timer MLA attendees were there, I
hope you enjoyed the food, and learned a bit about our section as picked up
some collection research project ideas from the presentations after the
business meeting. Welcome new and returning members to the section and
please answer the forthcoming calls for participation in the section's
various committees and projects throughout the year. (The two presentation
speakers-CDS member Locke Morrisey, Jaime Friel Blanck, and Deb Silverman
indicated that their projects are still in progress and articles will be
forthcoming--journals to be decided.)
We're looking forward to the very spiffy new look for our section Web site
that Karen Fischer will be "releasing" at the end of June, I believe. The
main url will remain: http://colldev.mlanet.org/. The new CDS brochure will
be linked from this "new and improved" site (in the category "About the
Section"). The CDS brochure was distributed to attendees at the CDS
business meeting and was displayed at the MLA Section Council information
table. Section officers took it along to distribute at the First Timers /
New Members breakfast, the MLA Membership Committee meeting, the Networking
Lunch with Sections...If anyone would like to receive a paper brochure copy
(or several copies) via snail mail, please let me know.
Last but not least, feel free to visit the site of the winner of the 2006
Daniel T. Richards Prize in Collection Development, Medical Library
Association, go to:
http://www.alz.org/Resources/Resources/rtrlcorelist.asp, "Core Videos in
Dementia". CDS member and Alzhemier's Association Green-Field Library
Director, Pat Pinkowski, had initially encouraged her staff to submit their
project for consideration by the awards committee, and she accepted the
award they ultimately won, on her staff's behalf, at the CDS Business
Meeting. (Eventually, that award winning site, too, will be linked from our
CDS Web site, "Resources List" section.)
Enjoy!
