Hi Gail. Miner Library recently completed developing a core list of
journals that we will keep in print as well as online for the
foreseeable future. There are about 130 journals on the list. We used
the following factors when selecting the journals for the core print
journals list: clinical significance (determined by the journal's
inclusion in the Brandon Hill list, AIM list and NLM Reading Room
collection); ranking by ISI's Journal Citation Reports (both Impact
Factor and placement on the JCR subject listings); and print usage at
Miner from 1993 - 1999 (this was a way to determine the most important
journals at our institution when print was still heavily used).
The rest of our journal collection is being changed to online-only
subscriptions.
Michele

Subject: [Mla-cds] Core Collection Journals
Hello All,
We are in the process of deciding what to continue to keep in print
of the journals we've identified as core titles. Our core list is based
on a combination of journals included in the Brandon-Hill and AIM
(Abridged Index Medicus) lists, High-Use Research journals, and High
Impact Factor journals. There are 158 titles on our core list. We are
wondering what other libraries are doing with the journals they've
identified as core. Are you:
1. Keeping all in print
2. Keeping selected titles in print
3. Keeping no titles in print
We'd also be interested in knowing the rationale for the decision
you made.
Thanks for your help with this.
