My apologies for the delay in posting the results of my authorship survey request. I asked for list input on what your library does to acknowledge, market, etc., books and articles written by physicians, nurses or other staff at your institution. I received three responses, and have summarized them below:

1. No policies in place... have a binder with articles written by our physicians, compiled as an article becomes known to librarian.

2. Library maintains an institutional author database using RefShare. The author database librarian maintains and monitors RSS feeds in Scopus, Web of Science, Google databases, PubMed and Ovid Medline, and enters the work into the author database. The author database is available on the Library's home page.

Notes and added entries are made into OPAC with contributor's names.

Library also monitors print publication lists, including Matthews and vendor brochures.

3. No policy, but collection guidelines.

Books -- Purchase books written/edited by faculty authors. Book chapters written by faculty not usually purchased.

Archives "Faculty Collection".

A faculty-authored (or edited) book list is featured in a library news article every two or three months. You may be able to view the latest installment at: http://www.galter.northwestern.edu/news/index.cfm/2010/11/30/Recent-Faculty-Books-Acquired-December-2010 . There are links to online versions of the book, if they are accessible to users.

Books are identified at book jobber site by author affiliation listing during weekly review of books for purchase, discovered on book displays, or found listed on department websites.

Articles - Article references are retrieved by special PubMed search algorithm. You may be able to view list at: http://pubs.nucats.Northwestern.edu/abstracts

My thanks to everyone who responded to my question. You've provided me with a lot of interesting ideas for managing this project within our own library.
